ON HER MORNING ROUTINE
I start my mornings by hitting snooze 91 times, feeding Rupert, then washing my face and doing my makeup. Sometimes I fix my hair and sometimes it won’t let me. Then I check the weather and pick out my outfit. I’ve gotten my entire routine down to about 20-25 minutes, that’s the exact amount of time I allot myself between opening my eyes and running out the door. Not a morning gal.
on her personal style
I get most of my clothes at Courtshop, but I also love to shop vintage and mix old and new. I would say my aesthetic is mostly black and white, semi-androgynous, and most importantly: COZY. One time a stranger told me I dress like a “gamer” which I think is an oddly accurate depiction.
on transitioning into fashion
I worked in retail for years as a teen, so that’s where most of my work experience lies, which made the transition into fashion pretty seamless. I do write all the time, though it’s mostly thoughts or observations that I jot down in NOTES on my iPhone. The good thing about having a passion for writing, is I get to use that passion all the time even if it didn’t end up being my career.
on the Outkast Aquemini album
My Outkast Aquemini album was a gift from my brother Patrick. It brings me back to middle school. I first got super into Outkast when I was 12 because my cheerleading squad did a step to Bombs Over Baghdad.
on her beauty routing
I have a VERY concrete beauty routine that I’ve gotten down to a science. I wash my face with St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub before anything else because it wakes me up. I use face moisturizer and my Bare Minerals Mineral Veil face powder everyday. I’ve been using the same Bare Minerals powder for ten years - it’s so lightweight and contains SPF 15 sunscreen, which is imperative for my Irish ass. I tend to find a product that works for me and use it for the rest of my life. I also use St. Ives Skin Renewing Collagen Elastin Body Lotion, Amika PERK UP Dry Shampoo, Balmain Paris Hair Couture Balmain Hair Texturizing Salt Spray, CoverGirl Brow & Eye Makers Pencil & Chapstick Lip Moisturizer .
on her biggest inspiration
I think my biggest inspiration is probably people watching - one of my favorite things to do. I draw people more than anything else. In fact, I learned to draw from looking in the mirror and drawing myself. I would say drawing feeds into fashion for me. Sometimes I don’t produce any artwork for a while and I feel lazy, but I’m able to use my style as a creative outlet every single day.
on the novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra changed my life. Nate is how I got into Nietzsche in the first place and he gave me his copy when we first moved to NYC. Thus Spoke vigorously reminds me that our only job on Earth is to observe. I would say to be Zarathustrian is to have no choice but to be moved by everything around you.
