Bedrooms You'll Want to Move Into

March 24, 2022 in guides, home

“Displaying the best of the best rooms in the house.”

Our bedrooms are where we retreat and recharge, the most intimate corners of our homes — and in the words of MTV Cribs, they’re “where the magic happens.” Year after year, the women of passerby have graciously shown us how they express their inner lives, so we wanted to highlight some of our favorite vignettes. We’re bringing these bedrooms’ themes of unstudied serenity and comfort into our spring cleaning and home refreshes. Let them inspire your own year of rest and relaxation.

By day, let passersby and birds in the trees distract you from work. When the sun goes down, flick on the bedside sconce for the adult version of reading under the covers with a flashlight.

From the floor-to-ceiling windows to the bedspread, this is less like sleeping in a bed and more like sleeping in a forest.

The tone-on-tone embroidery of the “Sleep/Love” pillowcases is so subtle it feels like a secret.

Monica Paolini, New York City

Monica’s reverence for nostalgia is evidenced by old portraits and a weathered hutch that stores books.

A cozy chair near the window creates an oasis for tucking in with a good book or meditating. Poppy yellow pillows, bold art, and mixed textiles keep the eye traveling.

Personal talismans hung next to the bed keep warm memories nearby. With French doors that open to a balcony, what else is left to dream about?

Lindsey Tramuta, Paris

Objects with a handmade quality, like the star hung on the doorknob and the indigo block-print bedspread, recall personal stories of travel and memories. Layering textures and textiles, like the lush mustard velvet and natural woven fibers of the pillows, invites warmth.

Framed by two windows, a work of art injects color and lends the bedroom a personal touch. Between that and the fire escape, you’ll always have something to gaze at when you spend all day in bed.

Sit on this tufted mushroom to put your shoes on in the morning and conjure images of Alice in Wonderland.

Ara Katz, Los Angeles

A soft white-on-white bed approximates sleeping on a cloud. Although serene and minimalistic, books are only a reach away to assist with drifting off.

Noemie Le Coz, New York City

This pared-down storage bed marries style and function, tucking clothes and clutter away to create a calming space. A reprieve from a chaotic world, a bedroom without distractions lends itself to clearing your thoughts and meditating.

Fariha Róisín, New York City

This crisp, plant-filled bedroom is where Fariha reads Apartamento and writers like Clarice Lispector, Vivian Gornick, and Etel Adnan. In a busy city like New York, a fresh, white bedroom can offer just the place to lounge, recharge, and commune with creative inspiration.

Camille Bertrand, New York City

A bedside table lamp and curtains tie in the muted colors of the pillowcases. Original moldings lend a lovely cinematic quality and epitomize city charm.

Shino Takeda, New York City

A lofted bedroom feels like a treehouse. Filled with art and personal collections, all that’s missing is the secret password.
