ON HER MORNING ROUTINE

We wake up around 7 every morning with the babe. Ayv is two now and loves to snuggle in bed for a bit before we get up to make her breakfast and lunch, since she is now in daycare. I take Nature Made vitamin D3 and a multivitamin (New Chapter or Nordic Naturals) in the morning. After Ayv and Ido leave for the day, which is around 8:15, I clean up the house and start on my emails.

on her background

I grew up in Toronto, Canada. After graduating from high school I enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in London, England and studied/worked there for two years. I graduated with the Grand Diplome in pastry and cuisine and then traveled and worked abroad for a couple years after that.

on her steps after culinary school

After culinary school I backpacked and lived abroad in India, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and landed in Israel for a couple of years, working in different kitchens. Then my sister got into NYU and I decided to move to NYC with her. I enrolled in the management program at ICE and ended up getting a job at BabyCakes FOH. While working there I created a show called EdenEats with my then-partner Samantha Schutz which we sold to the Cooking Channel. I have been working in television ever since.

Eden’s favorite books

Eden’s favorite books

“I have an incredible support system, which gives me a lot of confidence and pushes me forward to do what I want to do, both personally and professionally. I am also extremely stubborn and when I set out to do something I have to see it through.”
— on her motivations

on her experience as a traveling chef

One of the best parts about working in food is that you can take that skill set and work anywhere! You learn so much about a culture through its food and the way people connect to it. Living and working in Israel has definitely had the greatest impact on my cooking. I’m half Israeli and always loved the food, but when I finally had the chance to live there, everything changed for me. I had the opportunity to try new foods and learn more about the cuisine and its history. The food I cook now is completely inspired by my time in Israel.

on her upcoming cookbook

Working on a cookbook is so much fun. It is definitely a dream come true for me. I still have to pinch myself that this is happening and that everyone is going to be able to hold a book of recipes that I have created. Such a crazy thought.

Recipe developing is so emotional since you want all the recipes to represent you and your style. It’s very easy to second guess yourself, but I think that is probably the worst thing you can do. When you second guess yourself you always realize that the first choice was the right one. Follow your gut and don’t overthink, that would be my advice.

on her go-to recipes and favorite dishes

There are so many! Eggplant Baladi, hummus, tagines of all kinds, different roasted veg served with tangy garlicky yogurts and tahini, siniya- kebabs and roasted veg roasted with garlicky tahini.

“Keep pushing. There are going to be many moments in your career when you feel like you are at a standstill, but that is part of this industry. Find what you are passionate about and stay true to that. If I could tell my 18-year-old self anything, I would probably tell myself to take a deep breath. When I was younger I was always in a rush. Relax… stay focused and keep creating, everything will work out.”

on essential ingredients & items for your kitchen

Tahini, preserved lemons, LOTS of spices, lemons, evoo, garlic, onions, and red wine. I would also recommend a Microplane zester, mandoline, tongs, knives (Shun is a great affordable brand) and a Vitamix blender.

on raising a child in the city

There are easy days and there are hard days. Sometimes it feels like there is a line for EVERYTHING, but when the city is quiet everything is extremely easy… it really depends. I have a nanny and Ayv is also in daycare, so I would say I have lots of help. Also, Ido is extremely hands on and we share the responsibility of being parents equally.

Mornings and evenings I am with Ayv. I also try and keep my weekends open to be with the fam. I try not to take calls or write emails while we are together, which is really hard since I don’t have a 9-5 and feel like I am on all the time. It’s all about balance.

on balancing her relationship with her partner

Date nights are extremely important to us. I know that sounds obvious, but it’s so true. Going for a nice dinner, drinks or a movie. We love just having that alone time. Also, going on trips together. We plan short trips here and there to allow us to be kids again. We have the best time.

on her self-care rituals

I used to hate working out and now it is MY time (Dance: Broadway Dance Center, Pilates: East River Pilates and New York Pilates, and Yoga: Jivamukti). I get to slow down and take deep breaths. I also love going for facials or getting a mani/pedi but, I rarely get to do it.

on her style

I get most of my inspiration from Instagram and also just from living in NYC. There are so many stylish people in this city. My fave places to shop are, Ulla Johnson, Shopbop, Bird, Mara Hoffman, Reformation and I love vintage shopping. I live for a good pair of vintage Levis. Natalie Lim Suarez (@natalieoffduty) and Pamela Tick (@pamelatick) for style inspo.

“Family style all the way. Also, if you want to make an impression, focus on making one complex dish that needs a little more TLC and then make all the other dishes extremely easy to assemble or even dishes that can be prepared in advance.”

on her beauty routine

I’m pretty casual with my skin care routine. I love Luzern Laboratories’ L'Essentials Micro-Exfoliant and Pure Cleansing Gelee and alternate between the two. Big fan of Ursa Major Brighten Up Vitamin C Serum and usually use Smashbox’s Camera Ready CC Cream. For body lotion, I use unrefined coconut oil and Everyday Oil. Also, obsessed with the Ursa Major Forest Fix Deodorant. I also recommend Sukin Rosehip Hydrating Day Cream. For makeup, I recommend: Glossier Cloud Paint, Glossier Lidstar, and The Beauty Crop’s Glow Milk Liquid Highlighter
