Being half-Persian, hair is a big thing. I've treated mine with so much care—I've never dyed it—and let it grow long and healthy over the years, so the decision to cut it all off was a big one. One of the perks of running Passerbuys is getting bombarded with great recommendations from the women I feature on the site, which is exactly how I ended up at Bumble and bumble when I finally decided to go through with my haircut. Recommended by passersby Lauren Caruso and Alyssa Coscarelli—whose own short hairstyle gave me confidence—I decided to suck it up and book an appointment. Confession: this is my first time at a real hair salon in NYC; until now, I had only visited barbershops for quick, cheap trims. I met my to-be stylist, Tashina, at Bumble and bumble's Downtown Bb.Salon in the Meatpacking District, where killer haircuts compete for attention with the incredible views of downtown from the 7th and 8th floor salon's floor-to-ceiling windows.
“After showing Tashina some inspiration photos and describing the look I wanted to achieve, I took a deep breath and put all my trust—and 15 years worth of hair—in her hands as she made the first chop.”
Tashina brought me and my newly cropped locks over to the shampoo station to wash and condition before the rest of my cut—something they definitely don't do in a barbershop.
Back in the chair, I watched her snip around my face as both my earrings and my eyebrows started to look more prominent. She spritzed Bumble and bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer—a passerby favorite—on my wet strands, followed by their All-Style Blow Dry Creme and Surf Foam Spray, which made my hair smell like I'd just come from the beach.
She went over my blow-dried hair with her scissors one last time and finished my look with Bumble and bumble's Surf Infusion. I left feeling a little cooler and a lot lighter.
